Day 2 – Youssou N’Dour – Immigrés/Bitim Rew

The title track from Youssou N’Dours album Immigrés, original released in 1984. A song to remind his countrymen and women living abroad that they always can comeback to Senegal. Immigrés/Bitim Rew has everything you wish. It’s funky, it’s jazz, it’s got soul.
I started listening to this music after Youssou N’Dour was invited by Peter Gabriel to sing on his track In Your Eyes, on the SO album. After that Youssou became an immigré himself. More studiotime, more guestmusicians, duets with Neneh Cherry and, again, Peter Gabriel, more English lyrics. It never had the magic of the Immigrés album. With his last two albums it seems he’s back though.
