Day 46 – Franz Liszt – Totentanz

Another Dies irea inspired piece of music. I once read that Franz Liszt was a popstar in his time, an idol for the wigged lady’s. That made curious. So once again to the record shop. I picked up a disc with three pieces of music: Totentanz, Malédiction and Fantasia on Hungarian Themes (Jorge Bolet, piano; LSO; Ivan Fischer). The piece Totentanz made me choose this record above sonata’s, concerts, etc. Good choice. I like the Dies irae motif, which I now know is dating from the thirteenth century.
